Roads and Potholes Issues

🛣️ How to Report a Road & Pothole Issue

Whether it’s a dangerous pothole or a faded stop sign, you can report it in a few simple steps:

  1. Visit www.citymendersa.co.za

  2. Drop a pin at the exact location of the road issue

  3. Select “Roads & Potholes” from the issue category list

  4. Choose the problem type, such as:

    • Pothole

    • Sinkhole

    • Damaged or missing traffic sign

    • Faded or missing road markings

  5. Describe the issue, including any dangers it poses to vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists

  6. Include your municipal reference number if you have already reported it

  7. Submit your report and receive a CityMenderSA reference number

  8. Track or update your report as needed

Each submission helps highlight the state of our roads and build a case for timely maintenance.

You now have a record of the problem that you can track, share, and present to your local ward councillor, Ratepayer Association, or local government.

🔹 Why Reporting Road Issues Matters

Our roads are the arteries of our communities. Poor road conditions can lead to:

  • Damage to vehicles and costly repairs for drivers

  • Increased risk of accidents, especially at night or during rain

  • Danger to pedestrians and cyclists

  • Slower emergency response times in affected areas

  • Decline in business activity due to accessibility issues

Timely reporting of road damage is essential for safe, efficient, and inclusive mobility in both urban and rural areas.

🔹 Why the Data Is Important

Each road issue reported on CityMenderSA contributes to a growing data map that helps:

  • Identify high-risk areas and accident-prone zones

  • Expose road maintenance backlogs or delays

  • Reveal long-term neglect of specific wards or suburbs

  • Support funding proposals or community campaigns for better roads

  • Provide transparent records of where issues are reported vs. where they are resolved

Well-maintained roads aren’t a luxury, they’re a right. The more we report and track, the harder it becomes for these issues to be ignored.
