  2. Drop a pin on the map where the issue is occurring

  3. Select “Water Issue” from the list of categories

  4. Choose the relevant type, such as:

    • Water pipe burst or leak

    • Water meter damage

  5. Add a description of the issue (e.g. how long it’s been leaking, the severity)

  6. Include your municipal reference number (if you’ve already reported it to the city)

  7. Submit and get your CityMenderSA reference number

  8. Return anytime to update or follow up on the issue

You now have a record of the problem that you can track, share, and present to your local ward councillor, Ratepayer Association, or local government.

🔹 Why Reporting Water Issues Matters

Water is one of our most valuable and limited resources, especially in South Africa.
Unattended water leaks can lead to:

  • Massive water loss, especially during drought conditions

  • Soil erosion and road damage

  • Increased municipal costs (which get passed back to the public)

  • Health and safety risks, especially when leaks affect sewer lines or public walkways

Reporting and tracking water issues help speed up response times, protect infrastructure, and ensures public money is used efficiently.

🔹 Why the Data Is Important

When you report a water issue on CityMenderSA, you’re not just logging a complaint, you’re contributing to a larger data system that can:

  • Highlight hotspots where pipe bursts happen often

  • Reveal delays in municipal response

  • Expose patterns of poor maintenance or neglected areas

  • Support public pressure by showing how widespread the problem really is

  • Equip councillors and civic leaders with evidence to demand better service delivery

Water leaks are often treated as isolated cases, but through data, we show the bigger picture.
